Spoonful of Self Care - C l e a n s e

During my Yoga Teacher & Reiki Training in Baja, California Mexico I had the pleasure of meeting Laurel White, Health Guide-ess, Cleansing Specialist, Health Ranger, and Farmer. She was brought in to help implement and plan the itinerary for the 300 hr Yoga Teacher Training at Yandara. Laurel has run yoga studios for over 15 years in 2 different countries and is offering Yoga Detox Retreats for 5 years, on Maui. 

I spoke to Laurel about the journey I have been through with my auto-immune condition, leaky gut, and we shared common ground on our bodies failing us. Laurel an athlete, suffered from the death of her thyroid during the height of her windsurfing career, in her 20's. From this experience she delved into maximizing health and energy. Laurel at age 54, spent majority of her life researching the do's and don't of food, eating and cleansing, what I had to on my own for the last four years. Laurel complied her years of information beginning with the science of our bodies, our food, the elements of life and earth into her latest book The Body Garden.

The Body Garden

It’s not just a once a year cleaning job any-more. We schedule regular maintenance for our cars and with our doctors, why not our guts? Our gut works so hard for us every day, just like our cars, but do we afford it the same care? It processes and manufactures for us all day long.Note: The Body is a self-healing mechanism and can only do that when there is NO DIGESTIVE process going on. Ie: it takes at least 2 days, usually 3 for the Digestive Process to shut down and then the ‘critical’ priorities in highest need of ‘fixing’ will be tended to, by all systems of the body. This is a good time to give the body what it needs to support the repairs that are going on. Ie: after 2 days of fasting or juicing, you can do a liver flush.

2 Day Master Cleanse:

#1 (single serving):

  • 2 Tablespoons of organic lemon Juice (about 1/2 a Lemon)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Organic grade B maple syrup (not the commercial maple flavoured syrup you use on pancakes) OR Pasteurized Honey
  • 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder
  • Ten ounces of filtered water

#2 (60 oz. daily serving):

  • 60 ounces of filtered water
  • 12 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup
  • 12 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice
  • 1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper powder

There are a couple important things to remember when preparing the lemonade. For one, the lemon juice used must be fresh squeezed. This cannot be emphasized enough. It is necessary to use fresh produce. Canned juice won't work and will erase most of the benefits of using the master cleanser diet. Also, the maple syrup must be grade B maple syrup, not the sugar filled syrup that is used at the breakfast table. The cayenne pepper might seem unnecessary, but it is actually very important. Not only does it help to add a bit of a kick, but the pepper helps to break up mucus and increases healthy blood flow. It also is a good source of B and C vitamins, commonly referred to as Super Vitamins due to their many benefits for the body. Mixing teas with the recipe is one way to help modify things, just make sure It's decaffeinated tea because caffeine can restrict blood vessels and we want to keep your body passages as open as possible.

Liver Flush

(1) What you need: take these 3 in AM and PM, upon rising, before bed, on as empty a stomach as possible, for 4 weeks, to kill the adults. Take 2 weeks off and go back and do again, to kill the babies that have now hatched, in the 1,000’s.

(a) Fresh Cloves: 1/16 tsp. freshly ground in coffee grinder; I grind enough for night too and keep in airtight jar

Top 3 things to keep in your body daily:

1. Probiotics; take at night; for sloughing off the walls of intestines

2. Vitamin C; best to use vitamin C crystals (sprinkle on your food) or 

fresh lime/lemon juice

3. Digestive Enzymes: help your digestive process especially when eating 

cooked foods that have the enzymes heated out of them.
