In this second episode of Peter Pan’s Narcissism Rehab I speak candidly about my journey toward self-awareness and the importance of addressing the narcissist within us all. As this is my first recorded episode in a long time, I feel it's essential to begin by addressing the men who have been emotionally crippled by societal and familial norms.
This episode specifically focuses on men and the expectations surrounding their behavior, appearance, and emotions. Choosing to break free from these cycles is no easy feat. Although my partner, Stacey, has had to literally baby me throughout this process, it has still been a more daunting task than I ever imagined.
I discuss the weight of cellular memory, subconscious belief systems, and the ingrained cycles of our lineages. This is just the first layer we'll explore as we delve into the human psyche and the rehabilitation we must all undergo to overcome our species' traumatic history.
The journey to becoming our most authentic selves is highly transformative and requires a willingness to embrace discomfort, change, and truth. As I navigate my own human insecurities, nerves, anxiety, and disconnection, I recognize the traits that get triggered within me.
Instead of editing out these traits, I've left them in as a vulnerability and accountability checkpoint for myself. The insecure patterns, such as filler words like “you know”, or “erhh”, are intentionally left in to document the growth and authentic feelings trough these healing actions.
The road to recovery from narcissism is uncomfortable, but it's a necessary step toward maturity and self-awareness.
